What We Cover

Workshop Areas

Four focused modules that together cover the financial landscape for young families in Croatia.

All content in this workshop is educational and informational. It does not constitute financial advice or a regulated financial service. Consult qualified professionals for decisions specific to your situation.

Module 1

Planning for the Costs of Raising a Child

This module looks at the full financial arc of raising a child in Croatia, from the months before birth through to secondary education and beyond. We structure the topic into clear phases, each with its own typical cost categories and timing.

We cover maternity and parental leave provisions under Croatian law, the cost structure of childcare options (public vs. private), the transition to primary and secondary school and what that typically involves financially, and the irregular but significant costs that many parents are surprised by.

The goal isn't to produce a single number - every family's situation is different. The goal is to give you a framework for thinking about these costs before they arrive, so you can plan with intention rather than react under pressure.

Module 2

Comparing Models of Housing Provision

The question of where and how to live is one of the largest financial decisions a young family will face. This module doesn't tell you which option is right for you - it explains how each model actually works so you can make that assessment yourself.

We compare renting on the private market, purchasing through a mortgage, and accessing subsidized housing programs. For each, we look at what the ongoing costs look like, what the entry requirements are, what flexibility you have over time, and what happens under different life scenarios.

We also look at the Croatian property market context - regional price differences, how mortgage products are typically structured, and what questions to ask when evaluating your options. The goal is informed clarity, not a recommendation.

Module 3

Understanding Socially Subsidized Housing (POS)

Croatia's program of socially subsidized housing - known as POS (Program Društveno Poticane Stanogradnje) - is specifically designed to help families access housing under more accessible conditions than the open market typically offers. Many families who could qualify are simply unaware of how the program works.

In this module we explain the basic structure of POS: how apartments are allocated, what the eligibility criteria look like, how the application and selection process works, and what the financial terms typically involve. We also discuss how POS interacts with other housing programs and what the typical timelines look like.

This is purely informational. We don't process applications or provide guidance on individual eligibility - that falls under regulated advisory services. What we do is help you understand the system well enough to know whether it's worth exploring further.

Module 4

Tax Relief for Dependent Family Members

The Croatian personal income tax system includes a range of deductions and credits for families with dependent members. These provisions exist precisely for families in the situation we're talking about - yet many people either don't know they exist or don't fully understand how to apply them.

This module walks through the personal deduction system as it applies to dependent children, how additional deductions work for families with multiple children, and what other dependent-related relief measures exist in the system. We also cover how these provisions interact with different employment situations and income types.

We present the rules as they stand and explain them clearly. Tax rules change - we focus on helping you understand the structure so you can stay informed and ask the right questions when you work with your own tax or HR professional.

Common Questions

What people ask before attending

Do I need to have any financial background to follow the workshop?

No background is needed. The workshop is designed for people who are dealing with these topics for the first time. We explain concepts from first principles and avoid jargon. If something isn't clear, you're encouraged to ask during the session.

Will the workshop tell me what I should do in my specific situation?

No. The workshop provides educational information about how financial systems, programs, and rules work. It does not provide personalized financial advice. For decisions specific to your circumstances, we encourage you to work with a licensed financial professional.

How long does the workshop last?

A full session typically runs between three and four hours, including a break and a dedicated question period at the end. We keep groups small to ensure there's time for questions throughout the session, not just at the end.

Is the content specific to Croatia?

Yes. The workshop is built around Croatian law, programs, and market conditions. Tax rules, POS programs, and housing market dynamics are all presented in the Croatian context. This makes it directly relevant for families living in Croatia.
